- Encryption starts on your device. The provider should not need raw photos to sync or back them up.
- Metadata policy is specific. Look for clear treatment of face groups, location data, filenames, albums, and EXIF.
- AI features are optional. Search and cleanup should be explainable, local-first where possible, and easy to disable.
- Export is complete. You can leave with original files, albums, and useful organization data.
- No upload is required to evaluate fit. A privacy-first product should let you understand the workflow before handing over a library.
